Mission Opportunities
We strive to reach our local community, state, nation and world with the Good News of Jesus Christ! There's a place for you and your family to get involved.
ONGOING IN OUR COMMUNITY:
We have a growing Hispanic Ministry. Each Sunday we host a Spanish bible study and worship service and Wednesday night bible study at our church. At the clubhouse in Clover Ranch Mobile Home Community, we host weekly elementary tutoring on Monday nights at 6:30 p.m. as well as other activities from time to time. We have a weekly Kids Club at South Hampton Mobile Home Community that meets after Thursday afternoon for a Bible Club. Contact Don Shelley or Sharon McDaniel about this ministry.
Don Shelley is a chaplin at the local prison in Clayton County. Contact Don if you can help him in this ministry.
We support the local Pregnancy Resource Center in Henry County. We collected baby bottles full of money to give to the center. Don Shelley is on the board of directors and helps out alot around the center. Contact Don if you can donate your time to answer phones, work around the center, or get information on being one of their counselors.
CHURCH OUTREACH EVENTS:
We plan a variety of outreach events such as neighborhood block parties, Backyard Bible Clubs, dinner for the Luella High School football team and marching band, lunch for Luella Middle School teachers, Good News Club, operate a booth at the Bear Creek Festival, as well as several events at our church such as Kids Fall Festival and Egg Hunt.
This year, we're planning several block parties. Our first one is Saturday, March 27 at Simpson's Mill Subdivision off Hwy. 20 in McDonough. Email Craig if you can be a part of this event. We're doing mission work in Atlanta on July 10, more info to come!
James Sanders has begun a new chapter of F.A.I.T.H. Motorcycle Riders ministry in our church. They are planning meetings and attending bike rallys to share the gospel.
We reach out to those that have visited our church, through our monthly REACH program and through our Sunday School classes.
RACEWAY MINISTRY:
We set up camp two weekends a year when the NASCAR race comes to the Atlanta Motor Speedway. We reach the 100,000+ fans by hosting various children's activities, hospitality tents for campers and two worship services on Sunday morning - all in the parking lot of AMS. MISSION TEAMS:
In 2010, we have mission teams going to Romania July 15-24 and Moldova Sept. 23-Oct 2 (or Oct. 7-16) and our students are going to FUGE June 21-26. In the past, we were able to send international teams to Costa Rica, Poland, Romania, Germany and Uganda and stateside teams to Nashville, Benton, Lake Tahoe, and New Orleans.
Our own HFBC members, Mike & Myra Vandecar, are serving a 3 year term as IMB missionaries to Moldova through 2011. We collect & send them cards the first of each month. Visit their page for more info on their ministry and how to contact them.
GIVING:
Each year, we have a "March for Missions". Members pledge to giving to missions from Christmas through Easter. Then the offering is divided between foreign missions (Lottie Moon), home missions (Annie Armstrong), state and local missions.
Each year, we collect nearly 200 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child (OCC 2008 photo gallery). We also collect & donate school items and goodie bags for the children at the Georgia Baptist Children's Home.
